Whats up everyone, thanks for checking out my site.  For those of you interested in who I am, I thought I’d share my story briefly.

My name is Carlos Bonett. Saying that I’m into music would be an understatement. I’m sure you’re probably the same way.

My favorite type of music growing up was Hip Hop or rap music (not that I didn’t listen to Bob Marley, Oasis, U2, R&B, rock, latin rock, and all the pop music that’s on the radio now) but hip hop was my passion.

I guess I liked hip hop because more than any other type of music it was heavily dependent on a complicated lyrical structure that fascinated me.  I mean, I grew up on the mind-blowing lyrics of Canibus and early-Eminem! Of course there’s much more to songwriting than brilliant rhyme-schemes.

Back to my story for a bit…

My first job (besides making sandwich’s at D’Angelo) was interning in the promotions department at Power 104.1 FM (Clear Channel owned) in Hartford, CT in 2003.  I eventually graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelors degree in Communication.

Over the years I’ve held down various jobs all while developing relationships with musicians, dj’s, music industry professionals, etc. I’ve read plenty of books and e-books and have spent time in recording studios with producers for most of my adult life.

That’s me on the top-left, around 2008 when I launched Rap Fundamentals. I’ve written plenty of songs over the years and so I created this website (How2WriteaSong.com) to help people who are facing the problem I once had…not knowing how to write good lyrics, and in turn, not knowing how to write good songs. I truly hope it helps out at least a few of you out there and I’d love to hear your feedback.

To your success,

Carlos

Who Am I?

Hey there, Carlos Bonett here. I'm an avid fan of good music and helping others find their inner artist. I'm not exactly on the Billboard charts, but I have recorded songs that I'm proud of. Personally, that was my only true musical goal...and believe me it's a great feeling having achieved it!

How to write a 16-bar verse

A while back I wrote an article titled "How to write a 16-bar verse" for TheStateofHipHop.com.

Since it was a very popular article I thought I'd create a short video about it.

The article explains what bars are. It also talks about the origins of "16-bars" and why it has become the industry standard (especially in rap music).

Click here to see the short video. I recommend you play it in full screen mode.
